Report: Turbo Four-Cylinder Returning to the Mustang, but not in the US

Report: Turbo Four-Cylinder Returning to the Mustang, but not in the US:

The sixth-generation Ford Mustang is already under development, but all we know up to this point is simple speculations. For a long time, we have talked about rumors that the 2015 Mustang will come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the first time since the 1986 Ford Mustang SVO.
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Edmunds spoke with Ford insiders who let them know that a boosted four banger will be part of the lineup, but only for the European market.
According to the report, this four-cylinder gasoline engine will be offered as a low-emissions alternative to the V8 engine currently offered in the Mustang. The V-8 engine is highly-taxable in Europe, so the four-cylinder engine will help to boost sales.
The engine will be based on the current turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine featured in the 2013 Ford Focus ST. For the Mustang, the displacement will be increased to 2.3 liters through extending the stroke, widening the bore or maybe both. The output will be increased to about 300 horsepower up from the current 250 horsepower. It is expected to keep the fuel consumption at the current 23 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway.
These are, of course, unconfirmed rumors but they do come from a very reliable source. We’ll keep an eye out for some confirmation from Ford.

Las Palmas - the largest city in the archipelago - a famous traditional carnival. An entire month before going on the carnival, flood the streets dancing and musical performances. Puerto Mogan or "Little Venice" - a tiny fishing port grew into a cozy resort center in the south of the island. Coast port surrounded by a promenade and alkaline authentic town, drowned out of the beds. [edit] Geography. The Dunes area is however better known its reputation as a cruising ground; primarily for gay men but it also has its fans in the straight community. They are busy all year round, but more so at weekends when the numbers of visitors to the island is swelled by many residents from Las Palmas and the rest of the island. To reach the cruising area you can take an extended walk round the shoreline from Playa del Inglés beach although this will take at least an hour. The main bathing area eventually gives way to an extended nudist beach with gay men favouring the end of this stretch. To reach the cruising area, you should walk away from the beach and over the dunes until you reach the flatter scrubland. A more convenient way is to pass under the Riu Palace Hotel at the end of Avenida de Tirajana in Playa del Inglés and follow the road down to the viewing platform where the dunes themselves can be seen. On the right hand side are a set of steps which you should take and then walk until you reach the scrubland and palm trees in front of you http://www.twip.org/photo/2011/photo-kopos-ispanijoje-gran-kanarija-kanaru-salos-31897-small.jpg http://www.twip.org/photo/2011/photo-dunes-gran-canaria-canary-islands-31896-small.jpg http://20111021172818-8074099.webstarts.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuIGCDv77Tw&feature=share&list=PL645248890E6B7ED9

2015 Subaru

Hi-Res PhotoWe hear the 2015 Subaru WRX and its more extreme STI variant will be going on sale in the first half of next year, following a world debut in November at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. Anyone hoping for the aggressive look seen on the WRX concept unveiled earlier this year will be disappointed as spy shots show a somewhat watered-down look.
Volvo will preview its future styling direction with a new concept car at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. A teaser video reveals part of the design, which looks to have been inspired by Volvo’s P1800 classic.
Audi’s second-generation Q7 has been spotted testing in prototype form and looks to be much more aggressively styled than the model it replaces. The vehicle’s launch has been pushed back by a year due to some last-minute design changes, which means we can now expect it late next year.

Let’s say you picked up a 2004 to 2008 Gallardo only to fall in love with the Gallardo LP-570-4 when it hit showrooms in 2012. Instead of taking a huge hit trading up to the LP-570-4, DMC – no, not THAT DMC, the German car tuner – has a solution for you in the form of its Gallardo SOHO upgrade.
DMC starts off by eliminating the Gallardo’s front fascia and adding in a replacement piece that has more of the pointed nose, like the LP-570. On the bottom of the fascia are the signature air intakes and lower lip spoilers. On each end of the front fascia is the same diffuser you’ll find on an LP-570, showing DMC’s attention to detail.
The rear end is another part of the Lamborghini Gallardo that has obvious differences between the LP570 and the base model, so DMC completely revised it. DMC began by ripping off the entire rear fascia and replacing it with one that boasts the same lengthwise grated opening that the LP-570 boasts. Under the fascia, DMC added in a rear diffuser that very closely mimics that on the LP-570, including the lower brake light assembly and the cutout near the center.
Also on the backside DMC also includes a pair of dual-exit exhaust tip, just like the LP-570, and even a twin-pedestal wing with center high-mounted stoplight. Every body piece added to the Gallardo is made from lightweight carbon fiber, to avoid adding too much weight to the base car.
The interior boasts an overhaul as well. DMC will fit your Gallardo with carbon fiber and Italian leather to complete the aesthetic overhaul.
In the engine compartment, the 2004 through 2008 Gallardo gives up 58 to 73 horsepower, depending on the year. DMC’s engineers helped compensate for that with some engine management mods that bump the Gallardo’s up about 40 horsepower making its new top speed 322 km/h (200 mph). For a little extra scratch, you can add in the DMC sport catalytic converter and get an extra 28 ponies.
Overall, this is a pretty sweet build, but we can’t find pricing anywhere on it. We have reached out to DMC for pricing information.

We brought you details 18 months ago on the upcoming BMW X4 crossover coupe, and our speculation was further corroborated by the company’s $900-million investment in its Spartanburg, South Carolina, plant that will produce the sleek ute. Now we get confirmation, again, from the top, following the brand’s inevitable self-laudation. At BMW’s annual financial press conference, chairman Norbert Reithofer had this to share with the assembled press: “We created the premium Sports Activity Vehicle segment. Until then there were no all-wheel-drive cars on the roads that were so sporty. From the late 1990s to date, we have sold over 2.7 million BMW X models. Next year we will expand our offering in this segment with the BMW X4.” The X4, which company executives have hinted strongly at in the past, is a reality, and it will arrive in the 2014 calendar year. What we know, even if Reithofer does not disclose it, is the fact that the X4 is a coupe-like derivative of the X3, with which it shares its platform. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acura Debuting Production-Ready 2014 MDX Crossover in New York [2013 New York Auto Show]

Acura Debuting Production-Ready 2014 MDX Crossover in New York [2013 New York Auto Show]:
Acura MDX concept
The 2014 Acura MDX will look just like this concept.
Acura is ready to reveal the redesigned 2014 MDX crossover, and it has chosen the 2013 New York auto show as the venue to do so. We’ve essentially already seen the latest MDX at the 2013 Detroit auto show earlier this year, but it was officially labeled a “concept.” The production version should look identical, save for a few toned-down fascia elements and smaller wheels.

The new MDX will get a bit longer to better serve the second- and third-row occupants, and returns with V-6 power and Acura’s torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. A front-drive version is new for 2014, and a full complement of safety technologies will be on offer. You can find more of what to expect in our coverage of the MDX concept, and full information will be released next week after the production version debuts in New York.

Volkswagen Details U.S.-Spec 2015 Golf and GTI Powertrains [2013 New York Auto Show]

Volkswagen Details U.S.-Spec 2015 Golf and GTI Powertrains [2013 New York Auto Show]http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL645248890E6B7ED9
2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI
When Volkswagen debuted the seventh-generation, 2015 Golf at the last year’s Paris auto show and the 2015 GTI at the Geneva show earlier this year, the automaker tantalizingly revealed nearly everything about both rides. That is, everything except final engine options for the U.S. market. Oh sure, VW furnished European powertrain specifications for both rides, but despite the latest Golf and GTI being still about a year away from going on sale here in the U.S., we’re an impatient bunch—after all, the Golf and GTI are among our favorite compacts. Thankfully, the wait is over for U.S.-spec powertrain info, which Volkswagen has announced at the 2013 New York auto show.

2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI
While the European Golf offers a host of gas and diesel engines, the U.S. model will offer just two: A turbocharged, gas-fed 1.8-liter four and a 2.0-liter diesel four. The 1.8-liter makes the same 170 horsepower as the outgoing Golf’s inline-five it replaces, but seven more lb-ft of torque. Once again, the diesel will be dropped into the Golf TDI, but this time around it’s an all-new engine. Compared to the current Golf TDI’s 2.0-liter four, the new engine—which is a member of VW’s new EA288 engine family—produces the same 236 lb-ft of torque, but 10 additional horsepower, for a total of 150. Volkswagen’s specificity regarding the regular Golf’s transmission choices starts and ends with the promise that both manual and automatic options will be offered; gear counts and the type of automatic weren’t detailed. We’re betting that we get either the Euro model’s seven- or six-speed dual-clutch auto.

2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI
As for our favorite hot hatchback, the GTI, it will get the same turbocharged, 2.0-liter four as the Euro model. Only our version will make slightly less horsepower, with VW’s initial estimates coming in around 210 ponies. Before you start bellyaching about how Americans always get the short end of the stick, consider that at least the 2015 GTI will make the same 258 lb-ft of torque as the Euro model. The outgoing U.S.-spec GTI packs 200 horses and 207 lb-ft and is hardly a slouch; factor in the newest model’s slight weight loss, and it should be quicker than before. Regardless, the last-gen GTI was down a few horsepower to its European counterpart, too, so any anguish over missing output shouldn’t be a surprise. Once again, a six-speed manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission will be offered.
Finally, Volkswagen gave no further indication of expected fuel economy for any 2015 Golf derivative, or whether it plans to bring the latest GTD—effectively a diesel-powered GTI—to the States. (We suspect it will make it here.) As for the possible next-generation Jetta SportWagen, well, look no further than the 2015 Volkswagen Golf Variant; we expect that here in the U.S. it will be powered by the same 1.8-liter four or 2.0-liter diesel as the Golf.

Image Leak! The 2014 Cadillac CTS Is Gonna Be Purty [2013 New York Auto Show]

Image Leak! The 2014 Cadillac CTS Is Gonna Be Purty [2013 New York Auto Show]:
by Efotosadis Fotosadis

We’re mere days away from a major auto show, which means an inevitable slow and steady leak of photos and information covering highly anticipated reveals. We’ve already seen the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG courtesy of Russian website AutoWP.ru, for example. This particular batch of leaked images posted by Flickr user upcomingvehiclesx (you can see a couple of additional frames at the link) and found first by GMInsideNews have ripped the sheet from the 2014 Cadillac CTS—and the Alpha-platform car is going to be a stunner.

OK, so none of the photos posted thus far show the full car, but it’s clear that the new CTS’s front end takes cues from its smaller platform- and stablemate, the ATS. But the larger CTS, which will grow larger to better take on the BMW 5-series and others, features sharper detailing, which could make its little brother look weaker and slightly flabby in comparison. Even so, the design features fewer straight lines than the outgoing CTS, and is a clear evolution of the Art and Science styling language Cadillac initiated a little more than a decade ago.
While similar in design, the CTS’s LED signatures are more prominent than the ATS’s—at least on this presumably up-level trim—and extend more cleanly into the lower front fascia. The grille frame is softened from before, and features two horizontal chrome strips versus the current three. We learned last week that the maw will feed air to an engine lineup that includes a new 420-hp, 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6. Rear- and all-wheel drive will be available. We also note that this car wears Kumho Escsta SPT high-performance summer tires, which now you do, too.

Compared to the aggressive front end seen here, what we can see of the rear end is decidedly tamer. Creases from the body sides flow into the decklid and create some of the surface contours of the taillight units. We’re digging the classy execution of an Easter egg in those same lamps—look closely and you’ll spot a subtle script “Cadillac”.

One of the leaked images shows the new car’s front passenger door panel, and it features similar shapes to those seen in the ATS and XTS. Contrast stitching provides a visual break between the full-grain hide on the doortop and the faux suede below. The wood trim here is open-pore stuff, and it looks great. If the rest of the interior delivers on the style and implied material quality seen here, then we should be in for a treat.

Should more photos of the 2014 Cadillac CTS leak out on Flickr, an eastern European website, or via carrier pigeon directed to our offices, we’ll be sure to update our coverage. The 2013 New York auto show kicks off Wednesday, though, so you can check back then for a full-boat download on the all-new CTS.

Audi Boss Says R20 Supercar in the Middle of “Product Evaluation”

Audi Boss Says R20 Supercar in the Middle of “Product Evaluation”:

Rumors of Audi’s plans to build a Le Mans-inspired supercar have been floating around for the past couple of months. Expected to be called the R20, speculation has run rampant on the technical details of the supercar.
While Audi has resisted from making any comments regarding what it plans on doing with the car, technical chief, Wolganf Durheimer, bared some refreshing news at the Geneva Motor Show. Talking to Autocar, Durheimer commented that the proposed supercar is currently under "production evaluation"
More importantly, Durheimer believes that development of the car will go far enough that we could see a prototype later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
“We run product evaluation on different ideas, looking at market positioning, brand image, development cost and time to market,” Dürheimer said. “Once this is done we will have a clear decision on what happens next. I would expect an update on this project in September at Frankfurt."
“It is still alive and I’m pushing for it,” he added.
Should the proposed R20 progress to the point that it could be green lighted for production, Audi believes that a lot of people would go nuts for the car, something the automaker is looking for as it tries to align its Le Mans program with a dedicated road car. Should that end up being the case, it’s likely that the R20 will carry some sort of a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain, similar to what the automaker uses on its R18 Le Mans racer.
Ultimately, Durheimer believes that hybrid supercars are becoming an important aspect of a brand’s focus.
“The market for these cars is fairly limited, but they are so important for brand image and perception,” he said.
“I think we need to do this car and show clearly where racing goes.”
Sounds good to us.
